About
CREATING A “JIGSAW NATION: an exploration of what it truly means to be an American, is based purely on verbatim texts from interviews surrounding that question. Although American voices are heard through the privilege given to us by the right to vote, many feel as though their feelings are falling on deaf ears. The numerous answers to the question “What does it feel like to be an American?” including freedom, choice, fear, independence, confusion, and pride lead us to persist in our quest to have these voices heard. The stories range from a Brooklyn ships’ captain to a survivor of the Cultural Revolution, from a U.S. solider in Iraq to first generation Hindu. As we dig deeper into these responses, we are discovering that many of the most interesting answers have come from our country’s spectacular wealth of immigrants. Interviewers Hayley Finn (also director), Gary Winter (Head Writer and Recipient of a Cherry Lane Mentorship), and contributing writers Marjorie Louis and Malachy Walsh assembled dozens of people across a variety of demographics on a quest to craft the rich tapestry of stories that reflect the American experience.
Well here is your chance to be heard. To tell the world, or at least those who will read this blog to hear your answer to that question. So please add your story (by adding a comment) about what is means to you to be an American. Who knows perhaps it may end up on stage and then who knows who will hear your point of view.
